Goat's cheese farm: Le Petit Motte Cambremer
Goats' cheese farm [ Le Petit Motte Cambremer]: to learn about
the process of producing and marketing goats' cheese from a man determined to
carry out the whole process himself.
La boulangerie: 'Les Co-pains'
The bakery visit to 'Les Co-pains' was to learn about how organic bread is made and
to make our own - also to learn about an alternative lifestyle choice -focussed
on cooperative working rather than money-making.
Sand-sculpting
A sand-sculpting competition was held by Coach B. Sculptors later presented
their work to an appreciative (well, mostly appreciative) audience, explaining their inspiration and
inviting comments.
Coach C sculpted here ..
Biscuiterie 'Les Sablés d'Asnelles'
Biscuiterie 'Les Sablés d'Asnelles' a visit to learn about how to make biscuits
from a lovely man who speaks beautifully clear French and who loves Bruce
Springsteen, Neil Young and Leonard Cohen.
Arromanches: 360 degree cinema
360 degrees cinema at Arromanches - an immersive, engaging
and moving experience of original sound, stills and films recording the events
leading up to and following D Day 1944
For Coach B, this was followed by an outdoor history lesson from Mr Blackband ... the pupils were captivated.
Bayeux: La Tapisserie et les glaces!
Bayeux Tapestry: a useful audio commentary to the story of
the Norman invasion, 1066 depicted in an incredible woven tapestry, followed by
film and shop
Buying ice cream
at Bayeux 'Bonjour Madame, je voudrais une glace à la vanille s'il vous
plaît' (or as Xayla would say: 'est-ce
que je peux avoir une glace au chocolat s'il vous plaît?'
Les Batteries de Longues-sur-Mer
Batterie de Longues-sur-Mer: the remains of four gun batteries used
by the Germans to counter-attack on D Day ... incredible 'strongholds' and fascinating to visit.
Diary Time
We used a short time before supper to compile a diary of our experiences; there were some great examples of journalistic style and many prizes were awarded!
Ranville Cemetry
Ranville Cemetry: last resting place of soldiers of many nationalities
and faiths, many of whom fought on the beaches.
Our mood was respectful and reflective.
Mémorial Pegasus
We visited the Pegasus Memorial to learn about the daring feat of the 6th
British Airborne division who captured a strategic bridge the night before D
Day- vital to protect those who would later
land on the Normandy beaches
